Core concepts

This section discusses the core concepts that students are encouraged to follow when conducting their project. In the broadest terms, we encourage students to focus on three main goals:

  • Good engineering principles: the project should exhibit good engineering principles with respect to design, quality, safety, performance and methodology.
  • Value to society: the project should present a concept and/or product that would be valuable to society. Benefits can include health, communication, security, environment, entertainment etc.
  • Innovation: the project is innovative. This can include adaptation of existing technology to new areas, the product or process is new, novel, creative etc.
To acheive these main goals, further discussions of core concepts are presented in the menu on the left, and more details are available in the lectures given in "Capstone I".
