Student assessment

The course letter grade is determined from the total percentage score S using the following score-to-grade translation:

90 ≤ S → A
85 ≤ S < 90 → A-
80 ≤ S < 85 → B+
75 ≤ S < 80 → B
70 ≤ S < 75 → B-
65 ≤ S < 70 → C+
60 ≤ S < 65 → C
55 ≤ S < 60 → C-
50 ≤ S < 55 → D+
40 ≤ S < 50 → D
     S < 40 → F

The score S is the result of a detailed assessment involving the course coordinator, project adviser and second assessors. Contributions to the score are shown below for each capstone course:

Notes
A student who does not attend the final presentation will automatically receive a fail grade.
With agreement from the project adviser and the course coordinator, the following may apply:
1) Students who present a poor project defence may be awarded additional time to complete the project and present again during the faculty final exam period.
2) Students who fail the project defence may be given an "I" (Incomplete) and a short extension beyond the last day of the finals to complete the project. However, if the advisor is not convinced that the project is complete after the extension, the student will receive an "F" and fail the course.
3) Students who fail the course may retake the same project (if available) or choose a different project in a following semester.
