Project management is one of the core concepts in the capstone project. While project management is a team responsibility with all members having equal status, in some cases these activities will form the major focus for a student. Such students, usually from the Engineering Management department, will be responsible for a much broader set of tasks covering both Capstone I and Capstone II. A guide to these broader activities is given below.

Capstone I

The management objectives in Capstone I are as follows:
  1. Initiating and maintaining regular team meetings (starting Week 6)
  2. Condcut a need analysis.
  3. Creating for the project the following planning tools, and including them in the status report by Week 10:
  4. Creating for the project the following, and including them in the draft project proposal by Week 12:
  5. Reporting on important milestones and tracking progress.
  6. Conduct a marketing research. Show potential market data, typical customer definition, and expected results, SWOT analysis.
  7. Perform a financial analysis of the product based on the marketing research. Is the product economically feasible, if yes how you could improve it, if not how you could make it economically feasible?. Free cash flow analysis. Consider the projects as a start-up and outline a financial road map for the next 5-7 years. Sales estimations, hardware costs, etc.

Capstone II

The management objectives in Capstone II are as follows:
  1. Initiating and maintaining regular team meetings (starting Week 1)
  2. Reporting on important milestones and tracking progress.
